Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.-Harriet Tubman

If it weren’t for Harriet, there wouldn’t be a Ruby. If it weren’t for Ruby, there wouldn’t be a Kamala. What a compelling moment to witness the first State of the Union Address with the two women leaders next in succession behind the President for the first time–Vice President Kamala D. Harris and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi! It took us long enough to get here, and there is still work to do. Yet the whole moment felt different! It was like receiving an invitation to a new direction of inclusiveness and opportunity for all. Many proposed policies are imprinted with women’s ideals as we take our seats at the table. Women hold up half the sky, and while we each have different roles, the footprints we leave behind pave the way for those who follow us. What vision do we have of our future?

Before the address, I watched the behind-the-scenes preparation, and most of those individuals were women in the West Wing working together for a common message. It inspired me, and I hope it inspires you that this is our time. Dream big, act bold and speak your ideas because the world seeks the gifts you bear. There has never been a more significant time for us to step forward. We don’t have to walk alone. We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, and one day will be the shoulders that lift. I thought of the proverb, “for such a time as this, you were born.” We have to continue to march to the beat of our drums and stand for our truths, for we have no idea how our actions will encourage others. We change the world one courageous act at a time. While some are still fighting for their limitations, the country is shifting, and I see a bold, bright future ahead. What will we do to help move forward toward that more perfect union? In the words of Mary Oliver, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Message me, and let’s see how we can help one another by sharing ideas and building dreams to move our world in a more beautiful, abundant direction.
